Bugs! The gut microbiome

 Bugs the gut microbiome!

We are covered in bugs. They are on our skin and up our noses, but by far the winner when it comes to gut,It’s estimated there are more than hundred trillion bugs living in or on our bodies, most of them in the large intestine. Far from being problematic, our lives depend on them. They are dependent on us to survive too. We have a simbiotic relationship.

This is not news though. We have known we are teeming with bacteria for many years. However, in recent times we are learning more and more about just how Important these bugs are for our health. The host of bugs that live in the gut is called the microbiome, basically a large city of different bacteria. Its role is to help with Important these bugs are for our health.. Its role is to help with digestions and prevent disease by drowning  out bad bacteria. Gut microbial are our first line of defence against the unhealthy food and drink we eat. The bugs that make up each persons micro biome are different. This
exciting because it means we can influence which bugs live in the colon, and we may be able to encourage the gut to grab the food good nutrient and let go of the bad.

if we take away bacteria that maybe protective in storing and processing sugar and fat, our risk of developing diabetes and obesity can increase.

So how can we change the bugs in our guts?

One of the major nutrients that it is beneficial to the gut bugs is fibre, which we find in fruits and vegetables or unrefined carbohydrates ( whole grain). Eating these foods provide energy and make the good bacteria healthy so that they can thrive.

When we change these part of our diet, the way our liver processes sugar can be drastically altered and can reduce obesity and harmful Fats In our blood stream, which in turn can fight disease and make our hearts happy and healthy
